Obtaining Your
Guard Card

Please Note: JMA Security Guard Card training is offered exclusively to newly hired JMA Security employees. This program is not open to the general public. If you are interested in obtaining your Guard Card through JMA, you must first apply and be hired as an employee.

In the State of California, anyone who works as a security officer or guard is required to hold a state-issued security guard license — known as a Guard Card. With security concerns on the rise, demand for licensed officers has never been higher.

JMA Security offers top-quality Guard Card training classes in Santa Rosa, CA — exclusively for new JMA Security employees. Our expert trainer has over 16 years of experience in the security industry and is committed to providing the highest level of training to every student — whether you're brand new to security or renewing an existing license.

Our Guard Card Training Course is an 8-hour course required to apply for your Guard Card. A security officer cannot be assigned to any post until their Guard Card is active.

Section 1 — Power to Arrest
Security students learn about criminal law, civil liability, search and seizure, duty, and authority of a security officer under California law. This section establishes the legal foundation every officer needs before entering the field.

Section 2 — Appropriate Use of Force
Students learn the role of a security officer, when force may be used, how to apply appropriate force, and the legal standards governing use of force in California. Includes practical application scenarios.

Course Completion
Upon completing the 8-hour course, students are eligible to apply for their California Guard Card through the Bureau of Security and Investigative Services (BSIS) — and begin working with JMA Security.
